Education For All Children
Children in Mayuge face major barriers to education. In 2024, 33,784 children aged 6-12 and 27,112 aged 13-17 were out of school. In some remote communities, up to 9 in 10 children may miss school or lack consistent access to education, highlighting a serious gap in the right to education. Mayuge also has 35 learners per primary teacher, while long distances, poverty, teenage pregnancy and limited learning resources worsen school attendance.
Ensure Pure Drinking Water
Remote communities in Mayuge District face major challenges accessing safe water due to long distances, broken boreholes, poverty, seasonal shortages and inadequate infrastructure. In 2024, 16,841 of 119,368 households (14.1%) used unimproved water sources. Additionally, 61,343 households had unimproved sanitation and 12,298 practiced open defecation, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases. Strengthening water systems, sanitation and hygiene education is urgently needed.
Mitigate Climate Change Effects
Mayuge has lost 97% of its tropical high-forest cover since 1990, falling from 15,162 ha to just 451 ha by 2005. Today, 12,770 ha of forest reserves are degraded and 1,958 ha deforested, worsening drought, heat, soil erosion and food insecurity.
